Need to return or exchange a costume? No worries!
At Costume World NZ, we’re in the business of fun - so we’re not happy if you’re not happy! We do know sometimes your order may not be quite as you expected. That’s why we gladly offer refunds on any full priced products, if you change your mind. Sale and discount code items may also be returned for a store credit. Just check out the details below.
Please note, we don’t offer an ‘exchange’ service. If you need a different product to the one you ordered, just place a new order online for the item required and return your original item/s for a refund :)
It’s easy. Our friendly customer service team will provide you with a Returns Authorisation number (RA#), to help us process the refund – just shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Conditions for returns -
Please ensure the item is:
- returned within 30 days of the date of delivery
- unworn and unwashed with all original packaging and tags still attached;
- in the condition you received it in and is not damaged, altered or used;
- returned with your RA# and
- not part of our “excluded product” list below
It’s worth noting that we can’t offer a refund, if you were made aware of any damage or defect to the item at the time of purchase.
Please choose carefully if you’re purchasing any of these products, as we can’t offer a refund for:
- Clearance items*
- Highest Heel Products
- Inflatable & Piggyback/Ride-On Costumes
- Consumables like Make-up, Fake Blood, Hats, Wigs, Beards, Moustaches, Eyebrows, Eyelashes or any other Artificial Hair Item, Teeth, Noses, or any other Prosthetic Special Effects items
- Undergarments including stockings
- Candy Bowls & Large Decor Items (such as Wall Breakers)
- CDs and Video Tapes
What We’ll Give You:
A refund for the cost of the product using your original payment method. So, if you paid by credit card, we’ll refund that same credit card. If you’ve just changed your mind, we can’t refund the delivery fee - but if your costume is faulty, you’ll be reimbursed for both the purchase and shipping costs! And a store credit will be given to you on any clearance item returns.

This Change of Mind Policy is in addition to your statutory rights under the NZ Consumer Law. You are entitled to the benefit of statutory consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law in respect of products purchased online from our website. If you believe there is a breach of a consumer guarantee, you may return the item to us within a reasonable period after purchase. Please contact our customer service team if you wish to initiate a return under these statutory rights.
For items returned for change of mind:
- All delivery costs are the responsibility of the customer. We recommend that you use a postal service that can be tracked to return the items to us. We cannot be held responsible for any lost items if you fail to use an appropriate tracking service.
For items which are returned in accordance with your statutory rights:
Delivery costs are our responsibility. We may also cover the costs of re-delivering any replacement item where appropriate. Once received at our warehouse we will assess the condition of the item. Once we have assessed the condition of the item and determined whether it meets our Returns Policy or the NZ Consumer Law requirements, we will send you an email to confirm that we are processing your refund, sending out your replacement item or repairing the item (as is appropriate). Refunds will usually be processed within 5 business days after you receive our email. Replacement items will be sent using our standard shipping methods.
Who and what is Costume World?
Originally based out of Hamilton, Costume World started as two costume businesses - HalloweenCostumes.co.nz and KidsCostumes.co.nz. After they were merged in June 2017, Costume World has become well established and has quickly grown to be New Zealand's Largest Online Retailer for Costumes.
Is Costume World a New Zealand business?
At Costume World, our aim is to be one of the most affordable online costume stores while maintaining our excellent customer service and great delivery times!
That's why in mid-2018, we parted ways with our original Hamilton warehouse and moved to a drop ship program with our orders now being supplied direct from our main supplier in Melbourne. In early 2020 our Hamilton office closed but, you can still access our friendly Customer Service Team online!
Are your costumes legit?
Yes! Our licensed costumes are 100% Authentic and Official. We also work closely with several suppliers to ensure our non-licensed costumes are of the highest quality.
Do you hire or sell costumes?
We get asked this question a lot! We only sell costumes, for two reasons:
1) We believe that owning a brand new costume is better than hiring :)
2) We have great suppliers which means you can buy costumes at super competitive and affordable prices.
Do you have a shop I can visit? Do you allow pick-ups?
You are currently visiting our shop - CostumeWorld.co.nz! Unfortunately we do not have a physical store or location for you to be able to try on costumes or click to collect.
Do you have overnight shipping?
Unfortunately we don't, sorry - but we will! We're currently working on an overnight delivery solution that is both efficient and reliable :) more to come on this!
Do you ship to Australia?
We don’t currently ship to Australia, but our good friends at Costume Super Centre carry the same range, with similar prices and guarantees on delivery time, shipping costs and so forth. Please visit their website at www.costumesupercentre.com.au and they’ll be able to assist you will all your costume needs.

When will I receive my order?
All orders placed before 1pm Monday to Friday will be dispatched same day. The average processing and delivery time for orders is 3 days. Please check our shipping and delivery page for more info on this. **PLEASE NOTE - DUE TO INCREASED DEMAND ON THE POSTAL NETWORK OUR CURRENT DELIVERY ETA’s ARE 5-8 BUSINESS DAYS FROM DISPATCH**.

I'm not sure which size I am?
As costumes come from various costume suppliers, each costume can fit differently. Each and every costume has a its own sizing chart, available in the image gallery. If you do come across a product with no size chart information - shoot our customer service superstars an email and they can assist.
Can I get a refund if my costume is not suitable?
As long as your costume meets the requirements of our Returns Policy, then 100% YES! We offer 30 Day Returns. Just email our friendly team at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, order number and what your request is and we will get back in touch with your Return Authorisation Number and the details of our returns process back to a NZ address - so no international postage!
Can I exchange my costume for a larger or smaller size?
As long as your costume meets the requirements of our Returns Policy, then 100% YES! As mentioned above, we offer 30 Day Returns. The fastest way to exchange is to place another online order with the size you require, provide some details about both orders and we'll be in touch within 1 working day. We then process a refund for your original item/order once it has been returned to us and meets the returns criteria. Please contact us if you need any help with this :)
